From Nudge to Fun to Good Behavior

April 14, 2011 by Verilliance Leave a Comment

I’ve mentioned Nudge Theory before, and the book, Nudge by Thaler and Sunstein, is well worth reading. Last year Volkswagon launched TheFunTheory.com, an initiative that builds on the principles of nudge theory to influence behavior towards healthy or positive actions through the use of FUN. Check out the site. There’s a garbage can in a park with sound effects, a video game glass recycling machine, a “speed trap” lottery that awards law-abiding drivers with prizes, and more. My favorite is the piano staircase (shared with me by @ValNelson).

If more businesses and the government were to follow the lead here and make taking care of ourselves, each other, and the planet both fun and cool, imagine the progress we could make.

Have you seen more examples of “nudge”? Let me know in comments.
